all birds are important

“Birding helps me feel calm and walk away from the worries of the day.”

I first started birding my Junior year of High School. I enrolled in an Ornithology class where we would go out to the Eccles Wildlife Center nearly every week to look at the different birds. In class, we would learn about different types of birds. We would then go out and with our binoculars and see which ones we could spot. I never realized how much I loved birds until those quiet walks on the trails, watching the birds around me.

Once I started my Senior year, I was in an Advanced Ornithology class where we took care of the school’s aviary exhibits. I was also 1 of 20 other students picked to go on a birding trip to Texas at the end of the year. This trip was the first time I was able to take photos of birds, and it was a whole new experience. I want to share my experience with others and help them see the beauty of all birds.
